1. Types of Pipettes:

• Micropipettes: These are the most common type of pipettes used for volumes ranging from microliters (μL) to milliliters (mL). They are commonly adjustable and come in single-channel or multi-channel versions.

2. Adjustable vs. Fixed Volume Pipettes:

• Adjustable Volume Pipettes: Users can set the desired volume within a specified range.
• Fixed Volume Pipettes: These pipettes dispense a fixed volume and are often used for routine tasks requiring a consistent volume.

3. Single-Channel vs. Multi-Channel Pipettes:

• Single-Channel Pipettes: Dispense a single liquid at a time.
• Multi-Channel Pipettes: Have multiple nozzles, allowing for the simultaneous transfer of multiple samples. They are efficient for high-throughput applications. GeneBio Systems offers 8-channell as well 12-channel pipettes. 

4. Electronic or Manual Operation:

• Electronic Pipettes: These are powered by batteries and allow for electronic control of aspiration and dispensing. They are often used for precise and repetitive tasks.

5. Calibration and Accuracy:

• Pipettes need regular calibration to ensure accuracy and precision in volume delivery. Calibration involves checking and adjusting the pipette to ensure it meets specified accuracy standards.
• Increment: some pipettes let you choose any significant volume values, such as 983 uL for a 1000 uL pipette; others may force you to round up or off some volumes, e.g., 983 ul may be only pipetted as 985 or 980 ul. Choose a pipette with the desired increment. 

6. Tips and Maintenance:

• Pipettes use disposable tips that are specific to the model and manufacturer. Proper maintenance, including cleaning and calibration, is essential for accurate and reliable results. Regular training and adherence to best practices are essential for researchers and laboratory technicians who handle pipettes regularly.

7. Applications:

• Pipettes are used in a wide range of applications, including sample preparation, DNA analysis, PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction), cell culture, and various biochemical assays.
